Wii U Coming to CES in January
by Adam Rodricks December 20, 2011 in Wii

This past week, we named the Wii U as the biggest story in gaming for 2012. Nintendo is getting an early start on our prediction by making their first appearance in 17 years at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Prior to the announcement, we expected to wait until June of 2012 when Nintendo would share the finished version of their new home console at E3. There has been no news of what software if any will be showcased and Nintendo of America has released a statement saying that there are no plans to include any new games or information at this time.
Not to be outdone however, Sony will almost certainly be bringing their new portable system the Playstation Vita to CES. Microsoft may also release details about their plans for a next-generation system at the conference which runs January 10-13th in Las Vegas.

I hope this time around they actually put out a console capable of playing serious games as well as the casual gimmicky style games. Nintendo Wii was fun and all to play at parties with friends and what not but it was lacking on the serious games front. Or have they completely dumped that segment?

They have said that they hope to recapture that segment in the future. Judging by the software they’re developing, I’d say they have serious intentions but the jury’s out on whether they will deliver.

So are they actually going to be showing off a physical wii u in jan or just talk about it? I take it the hardware specs have been decided already for some time. I must have missed that announcement. I find Nintendo so quiet of late. Anyone know what the specs are going to be?

Hey Mark, head over here and check out the heading “System Details”:

And you’re right, they’ve been very quiet about their console since E3, probably trying to maximize the splash they make when they have announcements.

Thanks Adam. That controller looks insane what the hell?! I wonder how much it weighs. Are there going to be other controllers or is that it? That’s crazy….

It looks like this controller will be the official input device much like the Wii mote and Nunchuk were for the Wii. Crazy I know!

I think you get the regular wii controllers with it also.
